Ali was shocked to learn that she was pregnant in the summer of 2023. She had just turned 43 years old and didn’t plan to have kids. Scared and excited, Ali began to do the inner work of letting go of her fears, which included worrying about how it would “ruin her body” as everyone told her. Every single woman, on her maternal and paternal side, had severe stretch marks. And Ali started seeing stretch marks on her butt and thighs in high school, so she knew she was prone to them.

Ali was at a place in her life where she was finally okay with her body shape changing if it meant she was blessed to carry life in her womb, so she did the inner work to also become okay with what would happen to her skin. This inner work included Ali finding the balance between doing all that she can to achieve her goal (not having stretch marks) while not being attached to the outcome (not obsessing about it, developing positive body image while pregnant, etc.).

At the cusp of graduating from her holistic school, her holistic healing business expanding, and discovering that she was pregnant, Ali integrated all she was learning into developing a handmade belly butter that was both effective and safe for her and her baby.

She researched as many stretch mark products as possible and found that they all had ingredients that were harmful to both her and her growing baby, even the most popular and the most expensive. She was stunned to learn that the top products recommended by dermatologists don’t just contain mineral oil (one of the most damaging ingredients we can put on our skin), but have mineral oil as it’s #1 ingredient.

When she found products that were more aligned with what she was looking for, she discovered that they either weren’t 100% organic or they weren’t non-gmo or they contained synthetic preservatives, or their essential oils weren’t safe for pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Ali finally decided to put in the effort to create her own product. She tried different combinations of organic, natural, plant-medicine ingredients and amounts to get the right consistency and aroma. All combinations led her to a stretch mark free belly, butt, and thighs.

After her homebirth plan changed while in labor and led to an emergency cesarean, Ali used that same belly butter to help heal the scar. She knows that our skin is especially sensitive to products when it is damaged. Once again, the products out there for scars are filled with ingredients she would never put on her baby, so she definitely wouldn’t put them on her skin while breastfeeding.

There are some who say that it’s impossible for any product to prevent or treat stretch marks or scars. That statement alone is not a fact. What is a fact is that it’s hard, if not impossible, to prove something that was prevented from happening. How do you know emphatically that a product stopped the stretch marks that never appeared? As a person who values evidence, Ali’s greatest evidence is that she ended up having no stretch marks despite the high probability that she would. Could this also be related to diet, exercise, and mindset? We don’t know, and neither does anyone who claims to. What we do know is that Sophia Insight Organics Belly Butter isn’t just safe for momma and baby, but also really healthy no matter what the results.
