Coaching involves talking with a trained and professional coach who can help you to clarify your goals and determine how to achieve them. Your coach also serves as your accountability partner, supporting you as you practice implementing your goals into your life.

Holistic means to consider each part of the whole and how each part affects another. Our whole Self can be perceived as four main aspects: physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual/energy.

The opposite of this approach would be to only consider one of these aspects. For example, when we look at a symptom, such as depression, only from a physical aspect, we may treat it with medicine. But then we are dismissing other aspects, such as the energy trapped within our body, or the emotional healing that can be done with Shadow Work Coaching, or our nutrition habits that affect our hormones and brain chemicals.

When approaching coaching from a holistic lens, we consider how each aspect of your holistic Self may be affecting the others. For example, if you’re wanting to achieve a career goal, is there an unconscious thought process (which could be mental, emotional, and spiritual aspects affecting one another) blocking your success that you need to become aware of in order to have a breakthrough?

“The term ‘coach’ is, to be honest, a little weird to me. I see us all as co-creators in this thing we call life. You and I will join together to co-create the unlocking of what Carl Jung called the “Self” in order to awaken to your life’s purpose. Whatever that looks like (and it is so different for every client), I am grateful to you for even having the desire to seek your Self, for this is how we heal the world. With all my love and gratitude, thank you for being you.” -Ali Hartson

What type of coaching does Sophia Insight offer?

Ali Hartson is a certified life coach with training in transpersonal psychology, mindfulness, and nutrition. She specializes in coaching around:

  • Finding purpose and meaning in your life
  • Improving relationships at home, work, with yourself, and throughout your life
  • Improving productivity and motivation

  • Shadow Work

What is Shadow Work?

We are all Creators of our own life. Our thoughts, emotions, and decisions create the life we live. The question is whether we are creating consciously or unconsciously.

The purpose of Shadow Work is to become a Conscious Creator of your life so that you are not controlled by your unconscious belief systems that sabotage relationships, work opportunities, and your peace and happiness.

With your coach, you will engage in thought-provoking, eye-opening exercises to bring your unconscious belief-systems into your conscious awareness.

We all have shadow aspects and light aspects within us. One way to think about this is: our greatest weaknesses (our shadows) are also our greatest strengths (our light). For example, someone may be very bossy and demanding. When they learn how to turn that into a strength, such as being more effective at communication, they tap into the light and love that is really their true intention all along.

Using this same example, shadow work takes you beyond practical tools of learning effective communication. It also helps us to heal emotional wounds that cause us to get stuck in our shadow. This is important because until we heal our wounds (or do our shadow work), no tool in our toolbox will work, or at least not for very long.

By becoming conscious of the shadows within us, we learn how to make peace with our past, forgive, and to experience gratitude at a level that is difficult to describe until you experience it. Learn how to integrate your loving intentions with the strengths that are buried within your shadows. When you do, you will see how healing becomes fun and oh so much easier.

What can I expect during a holistic coaching session?

  • New client sessions are about 2 hours. This includes a full intake of your goals and your physical, emotional, and mental wellbeing.
  • Returning client sessions are typically 60 – 90 minutes. This includes assessing your progress between sessions.
  • You will finish each session with agreed upon next steps to take in between each session.
  • You will come prepared to explain your goals, or progress or challenges you encountered in between sessions.

How do couples sessions work?

For new and returning clients, the session will typically take about 2 hours and are structured like a one-on-one session (see the above question).
