Coaching involves talking with a trained and professional coach who can help you to clarify your goals and determine how to achieve them. Your coach also serves as your accountability partner, supporting you as you practice implementing your goals into your life.
Holistic means to consider each part of the whole and how each part affects another. Our whole Self can be perceived as four main aspects: physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual/energy.
The opposite of this approach would be to only consider one of these aspects. For example, when we look at a symptom, such as depression, only from a physical aspect, we may treat it with medicine. But then we are dismissing other aspects, such as the energy trapped within our body, or the emotional healing that can be done with Shadow Work Coaching, or our nutrition habits that affect our hormones and brain chemicals.
When approaching coaching from a holistic lens, we consider how each aspect of your holistic Self may be affecting the others. For example, if you’re wanting to achieve a career goal, is there an unconscious thought process (which could be mental, emotional, and spiritual aspects affecting one another) blocking your success that you need to become aware of in order to have a breakthrough?
“The term ‘coach’ is, to be honest, a little weird to me. I see us all as co-creators in this thing we call life. You and I will join together to co-create the unlocking of what Carl Jung called the “Self” in order to awaken to your life’s purpose. Whatever that looks like (and it is so different for every client), I am grateful to you for even having the desire to seek your Self, for this is how we heal the world. With all my love and gratitude, thank you for being you.” -Ali Hartson
